Hotshots
Tennis Hot Shots is tennis for kids! It’s a program designed to help every child, no matter their age or ability, jump in and start playing tennis. Depending on their age, Tennis Hot Shots is played on smaller courts with modified equipment, including lighter racquets, lower nets and low compression balls that don’t bounce too high. With four fun stages (Blue, Red, Orange, and Green), our coaches will be with the kids to guide them every step of the way. We have lessons running Monday to Saturday.
Have a look below for some more info on the program and how each stage ties in…
BLUE STAGE
The building blocks of skills in sports or physical literacy in general are fundamental motor skills (FMS). Our blue stage lessons can best be described as tennis themed FMS development. Incorporating throwing, catching, striking, balance, co-ordination and movement patterns… Without getting too hung up on the theory, we also have a fair bit of fun!!
RED STAGE
Small courts, mini nets and bigger, slower balls - Red stage is our first level of specific Tennis focused games. While FMS development is still a large part of the sessions, their purpose in Red stage is linked closely to Tennis specifically. Proper technical fundamentals are learnt and an understanding of their context with in tennis. Concepts like rallying, the value of consistency and the boundaries of the court are first introduced here.
ORANGE STAGE
Working on a 3/4 sized court and balls with half the bounce of a normal ball. At this Stage players are starting to explore competition and what it means to be competitive. Technically, we are still developing fundamentals but a tactical context is introduced here. Players learn to score and begin to deal with the emotions of winning and losing, risk taking and patience within a rally context.
GREEN STAGE
Full court but with a softer than normal green ball. A green stage player will be either playing their first competition tennis like playing their first tournaments or junior club competition, or be working towards this. Fundamental skills are being developed in the context of more advanced techniques. On top of being able to return shots in a rally, green players learn to use spin, pace and trajectory of the ball to gain advantage.
